Capture It! People's Choice Voting NOW OPEN!

Posted By Jessica A. Taylor, Thursday, 26 August 2010

From Monday 19 April until Monday 23 August, the USQ Student Guild invited all USQ students - Toowoomba, Fraser Coast, Springfield, and Distance Education/Online - to submit entries in the Capture It! 2010 Digital Photography Competition.

Nearly 600 photographs were submitted by USQ students. Our judges had the tough job of narrowing these 600 entries down to just one Best Overall Winner and one Best Overall Runner Up for each category (Toowoomba, Fraser Coast, Springfield, and Distance Education/Online). These students will be announced on Wednesday 8 September.

Our judges have also chosen ten finalists in each category for the People’s Choice Voting component of the competition. People’s Choice Voting is open from Thursday 26 August until Tuesday 7 September. Only one vote will be allowed per person in each category, so make sure you pick your favourite photo.

Thanks to those students who submitted entries. We look forward to announcing the winners on Wednesday 8 September. Best of luck to the People’s Choice finalists and happy voting to all the USQ students and staff who will choose this year’s People’s Choice winner and runner-up in each category.

Capture It! entries close next week!

Posted By Jessica A. Taylor, Sunday, 15 August 2010

Entries for the 2010 Capture It! Digital Photography Competition close next Monday (23 August). As a USQ student, you’re invited to submit between one and six photos before the closing date. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘What I Can’t Live Without’. Take pictures of what you can’t live without and submit these to Jessica.Taylor@usq.edu.au.... But make sure you follow the entry instructions below to ensure your entry is submitted!

  • Save your six photographs with the following title: Campus_First name_Last name_Capture It! #(entry number). Your photographs should be JPEG files.
  • Attach these to an email from your @umail.usq.edu.au email account. This email should also contain: your name, campus, student ID number, contact phone number, and email address.

Important things to note:

  • Entries that have not followed these instructions will not be submitted. It is extremely important to ensure that your name, campus, student ID number, contact phone number, and email address are included in your entry email as this will ensure that entries are placed in the correct category. It is equally important that the instructions above are followed regarding saving your photographs.
  • Keep the theme in mind while capturing what you can’t live without and remember that any obscene photos will be denied entry.
  • Photos which are clearly taken from the internet will also be denied entry. All entries must be your own work.

We’re hoping to receive many more entries over the next week. There are two Panasonic Lumix DMC-F3 Cameras up for grabs at each campus for Best Overall Photo and People’s Choice Photo. The runner up in each category will receive an iPod shuffle. However, please note that due to circumstances out of our control the runner up prize may change.

Make a difference for a child in need... Operation Christmas Child

Posted By Jessica A. Taylor, Tuesday, 10 August 2010

BECOME PART OF OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD TODAY!!!

Imagine the smile across the face of a less fortunate child who receives a shoe-box full of treasures for Christmas this year! For those with children, this is a great way to help your kids see how lucky they are to have food, water, shelter and toys to play with every day… All you have to do is…

Step 1 – Find a shoe box

Find an empty shoe box. With cheerful paper, separately wrap the box and lid. Note: the size must be within 21x30cm.

Step 2 – Boy or Girl?

Determine if a boy or girl will receive your gift. Select the age of the child and who will receive your box. Mark a label (see attachment) and stick it on your box lid. You can include a special note for your child in the box.

Step 3 – Fill with Gifts

Fill the box with a variety of simple gifts that will bring delight to a child. Please make sure the packaging from each gift you give is removed. Gift ideas (and a list of what not to include) can be found at http://www.samaritanpurse.org.au./

Finally...

Put your $9 donation in an envelope or donate online. Please don't forget to include the $9.00 donation as thiscovers the cost of organising and delivering the boxes to less fortunate children in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Vanuatu, PNG, and the Solomon Islands.Close thelid and secure with a strong rubber band. Your donation of $9 or more covers project costs involved withorganising and delivering the boxes.

Further information about Operation Christmas Child can be found at http://www.samaritanpurse.org.au/.
